Pseudo AIS or AIS on your smart phone.
A form of AIS has come to the smart phone for both the Android and I-Phone or I-Pad with a INTERNET type connection.
This not an actual AIS, but it can do some things to emulate an AIS. It updates its web page with quick updates, but it does not transmit a VHF signal to other ships. Rather the user must use the smart phone app to view ships that are in the area.
This is accomplished by down loading from the internet the other ship locations which are captured by world wide AIS receiving sites..
See Marine Traffic at http://marinetraffic.com/ais/
Or
Ship Finder at http://shipfinder.co/
The product is called Boat Beacon and incorporates the GPS location of smart phones using the software and then merges that data with the AIS signals captured from boats by receiving stations and have been sent t o the internet.
For HYC the product may have applications tracking Beer Can and J22 racers.
For more information or to order ($9.99) see their web page http://pocketmariner.com/boatbeacon/ or
